A new survey, spearheaded by Big Bite with input from leading WordPress agencies like WebDevStudios and Human Made, sheds light on why enterprises continue to bet on the world’s most popular CMS.

During a recent Do The Woo episode, Brad Williams (WebDevStudios) and Tom Willmot (Human Made) reflected on the findings, noting that while factors like cost still matter, functionality ultimately drives WordPress’s staying power in large organizations.

Brad and Tom affirmed that big companies rely on WordPress not just because it’s open-source, but because it delivers a better editorial experience and extensive customization options. “At the core, WordPress is a content publishing system—and that’s what it’s always done really well,” said Williams. He explained how familiar workflows and a growing ecosystem of plugins give content teams creative control without the IT bottlenecks often seen in proprietary platforms.

“You can bring in plugins that offer really advanced functionality very quickly,” Brad added, pointing to a strong reason why WordPress has become a default choice. Organizations can build complex features—like e-commerce, membership tools, or global marketing campaigns—without juggling multiple license agreements. Over time, this extensibility has proven more valuable than simply saving on software costs.

According to the survey, most respondents plan to continue using WordPress long-term, citing fewer headaches for IT and better ROI as the platform scales.

For Brad and Tom, the takeaway is clear: While WordPress began as a blogging tool, the latest data shows just how thoroughly it has transformed into a CMS that meets the evolving demands of enterprise teams worldwide.
